How much snow did we get last night?
Snow totals come from daily station reports. An overnight storm may not appear until the observer reports and NOAA publishes the record. Check the dates printed beside each total: they are station reporting days, not a live rolling 24-hour measurement.
How precise is a ZIP code snow total?
The report uses a nearby snow-reporting NOAA GHCN-Daily station selected for the ZIP’s representative coordinate. Several ZIP codes can share a station, and snowfall at your address can differ. These amounts measure new snow, not the snow depth still on the ground.
Does an unavailable total mean no snow fell?
No. Missing observations are shown as unavailable, rather than turned into zero. A report can also lag current weather; check its dates before comparing it with another location or a rain or snow gauge.
